Zoomed Bottom Left
the Sun's limb, close up, in 304 Å red

What you see on every new tab

Zoomed Bottom Left is the close-up companion to Solar Corona: the same procedural Sun, seen from near the limb in the deep red, orange and white of NASA SDO's 304 Å channel, with most of the screen left as dark space for your clock and search box.

• Chromospheric texture: bright network cells with dark lanes, plage around the sunspot groups, and a hairy spicule fringe along the limb.
• Prominences: loops of plasma standing off the edge wherever an active region reaches it, slowly evolving; occasionally one lifts away entirely.
• Flares: a ribbon blazes white in a region and fades over tens of seconds.

Nothing is a video. The scene is generated live on your graphics card with WebGL, so it never loops and never looks the same twice.

What it reacts to

• Mouse: the cursor heats the surface under it; near the limb it stirs the prominence.
• Music: bass swells the glow, mids brighten the network, treble sharpens the spicules, a hard kick sets off a flare and, rarely, an eruption.
• Night: darkens after dusk, following the sun at your location.

Questions

Why is it called Zoomed Bottom Left?

Because that is what it is: the Sun zoomed in and pinned to the bottom-left corner. The name in the Themes panel matches so you can find it.

Is it free?

It is a Pro theme. Pro is a one-time $19 purchase, no subscription, that unlocks every Pro theme, music sync, and every future theme.

Is it the same as Solar Corona?

Same engine and rotation, different channel and framing: red instead of gold, no field-line overlay, and a close-up from the corner instead of the whole disc.

Does it work on my phone?

No. It's a desktop browser extension for Chrome and Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. If you're reading this on a phone, send yourself the link.
