Liquid Orb
a black liquid sphere that ripples to your music

What you see on every new tab

Liquid Orb hangs a ball of black liquid at eye level in the hall of an alien ship: bone-like ribs arching overhead, glowing pods, a pointed hatch at the far end and a glossy floor with a red glow under it. It is built for music.

• The orb: it bobs, drifts and slowly turns. The red ceiling lights leave thin glints on it, and every ripple shows as a bend in those reflections.
• The hall: ribs, vein-like relief on the walls and floor, and small green and blue status lights, a few of them blinking.
• In silence: it breathes slowly, and a faint ring crosses it every few seconds.

Nothing is a video. The orb, the hall and every reflection are computed live on your graphics card with WebGL.

What it reacts to

• Music: with music sync on, the sound is split into seven bands. The deepest bass pushes the orb toward you. Bass sends rings from behind that meet in a mound at the front. Low mids ring from the left wall, high mids from the right, presence from the floor, treble from the ceiling, and the very top adds a fine shimmer. On a big hit all five sources fire at once and the rings collide.
• Mouse: the view tilts very slightly with your cursor.
• Night: no change: it is an indoor scene.

How does it hear my music?
